With no Sam, due to illness, Joseph, Jimmy, Tom, Jack, Baden, Emily and Zach were in fine spirits and raring to go on arrival at Allianz Park.
Up first, Maldon and a fast-paced end to end match. Unfortunately, we lost this game by a single point on the last play/6th tag of the game. Disappointing, but the team demonstrated what they have learned in recent weeks and what they are capable of.
We then lost to Saracens on their home turf, again by one point.
Up next, Barnet and our team came out fighting and produced their best performance by far. All players played their part and everyone scored. However, special mention must go to Emily for scoring the try of the day with an intercept on our own line and then with speed and agility, dodging all opposition attempts to tag, carried the ball the full length of the pitch to score! OG's won this match by 14 to 6.
Our final match against Chess Valley was a must win, feisty affair, with Patrick handing the pre-match huddle to the pumped-up team. They played their hearts out in a hard-fought match and were unlucky to lose, again by that one, single point (although we scored it as a draw).
Overall, we scored 42 points and conceded 37. As a testament to the players, the Maldon coach found us after the tournament expecting us to have easily gone through. They finished top of the group, winning all of their matches yet he said we were their strongest opposition. To say we are so proud of all the players, is an understatement.
Onwards and upwards, it's a steep learning curve, albeit a tough one to take. Those tears shed will be forgotten and replaced with joy next time out.
