Our U16 Unicorns joined forces with Sarries Sonics for their second outing under the ‘SOGs’ banner, taking on Finchley RFC in a Friday night friendly under the floodlights. This time it was our turn to run out in Sarries colours, as the girls continued to build their partnership on the pitch.
It was a difficult start, with three girls picking up injuries during the warm-up, but the squad dug deep for what proved to be a fiercely contested derby.
Ferocious tackling and end-to-end action kept both sides working hard, with 25 minutes played before Finchley finally broke the deadlock. There was no shortage of effort from SOGs, who continued to battle throughout.
In the scrum, our front row of Evie, Lola and Roisin held their own, while Ruby T made some darting runs through the centre before feeding Tia for our only try of the evening.
At full-back, Sophie put in numerous try-saving tackles, showing plenty of determination as Finchley pressed forward.
A special mention goes to Aurelia, who made her debut in a demanding fixture. It was a tough introduction, but finishing with a smile on her face said plenty about her attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
The final score was SOGs 7–29 Finchley. Plenty to learn from, but also plenty of effort and commitment to build on as the girls regroup ahead of next week’s league match against Hertford.
