Saturday 23rd May will undoubtedly go down as one of the proudest and most memorable days in the history of Old Grammarians RFC, as the club hosted its inaugural U13s Rugby 7s Festival - and what a great occasion it proved to be. With an incredible 12 clubs attending and 14 teams competing across a full day of thrilling rugby, the festival delivered an unforgettable celebration of youth sport, community spirit and grassroots rugby at its very best.
The participating clubs were Ampthill, Aylesbury, Bedford Blues, Billericay, Cheshunt, Enfield Ignatians, Finchley, Harlow, Millwall, Old Grammarians, Ruislip and Saracens Amateurs, with both Old Grammarians and Ruislip proudly entering two teams each.
Played under glorious sunshine and in front of fantastic support throughout the day, the standard of rugby on display was outstanding. The fast-paced nature of 7s rugby produced exciting matches, superb tries and countless moments of skill and determination from every team involved. Just as importantly, the festival was played in tremendous spirit, showcasing the very best values of the game.
After a superb day of competition, congratulations go to the festival winners:
The entire club grounds were buzzing from start to finish with a true festival atmosphere, creating a memorable experience for players, coaches, families and supporters alike. The combination of brilliant rugby, fantastic organisation and an incredible sense of community made this a truly magnificent occasion for everyone involved.
Events on this scale simply cannot happen without an army of dedicated volunteers, and Old Grammarians RFC would like to extend enormous thanks to everyone who helped make the day such an overwhelming success.
Special recognition goes to Ange Micallef for coordinating the vendors and helping create the brilliant festival vibe enjoyed throughout the day. Huge thanks also go to Esme Wright and Stacey Stoba for their tireless work as score keepers and controllers, ensuring the festival schedule and results ran seamlessly from beginning to end.
A special mention must also go to Steve Wright for designing the scoring app, which proved to be an outstanding addition to the day and played a major role in helping the tournament run so efficiently.
Massive appreciation also goes to the referees - Chris Merrick, James Walsh, Jordan Ambrose, Mark Lockwood and Raihan Yaheya - who worked tirelessly all day in extremely hot conditions. Their professionalism, energy and commitment ensured the rugby was played in the right spirit throughout the tournament.
Finally, special thanks go to Scott Stoba for the huge amount of work and dedication he put into organising the festival over recent months. If it wasn't for his dedication the it would never have happened. From the planning behind the scenes to ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day, his commitment played a major role in making the event such a fantastic success for everyone involved. The scale and success of the festival were nothing short of fantastic and many within the club have described it as one of the bests events ever hosted by Old Grammarians RFC.
The inaugural Old Grammarians U13s Rugby 7s Festival was a spectacular success in every sense and has undoubtedly laid the foundations for what promises to become a major annual event in the rugby calendar for years to come.
