Before kick-off, both teams came together for a minute’s silence in memory of Sandy Cowan, a player and friend of our opposition, Waltham Forest Foxes. Sandy was known by both teams as a lovely, cheerful lady, and she will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and everyone at the Foxes.
The Old Grammarians ladies then put in a fantastic shift, delivering another strong defensive performance alongside some brilliant attacking rugby.
The team’s defence was as solid as ever, with the three-player defensive line back to its best. There were some outstanding drives and breaks throughout the match, as the ladies continued to put pressure on their opposition. Several attempts to cross the line came agonisingly close, with the team showing great determination and plenty of attacking intent.
There were special moments across the pitch, including a superb wing break from Yas, who looked set for a try before an unfortunate stumble halted her run. Wendy also produced a moment of magic, diving, dummying and dancing her way across the try line to finish in style.
Player of the Day went to Mirella, who was an absolute brick wall in defence before producing a sensational break through the opposition for a half-pitch dash and an outstanding try. A thoroughly deserved recognition for a brilliant all-round performance!
A huge well done to all the ladies for their effort, commitment and team spirit. There is plenty to be proud of, and the team can take real confidence from another determined performance.
Well played, ladies!
