Our last game of the season was a cracker. Away (well 5 mins away) to our North London neighbours Saracens Amateurs.
The last minute arranged game was not confirmed until the morning of the match due to our dry weather in North london and the pitches being hard. However we were elated to be told that it was on.
We lost our captain James who fell ill that morning, along with his fellow centre Tayte nursing a knee injury. We were boosted by a debut from our new team mate Louis who slotted into 2nd row.
The boys warmed up on a side pitch but we were playing the their main pitch once the Colts game finished. Saracens were having their presidents day so full on bouncy castles were being used to great effect by the younger age groups!
Kick off was tense between the two teams with the opening exchanges providing strong tackling by Saracens on our strong ball runners but a great break down the right from our backs and after several phases of rucks from our forwards finished with our hooker Harry storming over for an early try.
This spurred Saracens into life and they pushed back with some elusive back play stretching our boys across the field.
Some stringent refereeing on our power runners pegged us back a bit but regardless, our no. 8 Manni flew over left of the posts for another try. This followed some great inter play between our centres Alex and Taran making the breaks. It's also worth noting we had 2 wingers in the midfield and they produced some strong tackles countering Saracens intricate back play. Well done to them along with Isaac moving from the pack in the second half to join our midfield.
Half time brought a revived Saracens back with two tries but another try from our captain Manni closed the game out 17-15, after a tense last 5
mins when Saracens scored a full length of the field try, again with their elusive back play.
Close of play brought words of praise from our head coach David Roche and Sarries equivalent to both teams.
Special word goes to our new joiner Louis who had his debut for us and had a very impressive game.
We got some great pics of the teams under the posts and then as usual at Saracens, some great food.
