All new players are assured of the warmest of welcomes to our U12 Girls – the Unicorns!
Our U12s bring together girls from School Years 6 and 7, and whether they’ve played rugby before, are moving up from mixed rugby or are picking up a rugby ball for the very first time, everyone is welcome.
For many girls, U12s is their first experience of playing in an all-girls rugby team, and our focus is on making that experience as positive, fun and welcoming as possible.
Training is all about building confidence, friendships and rugby skills. Players develop the fundamentals of passing, catching, running, tackling, evasion and support play, with plenty of games and activities to keep sessions enjoyable and everyone involved.
With two school years within the squad, players will naturally arrive with different levels of experience and confidence. Our coaches make sure sessions allow everyone to develop at their own pace, while encouraging the girls to support one another and learn together as a team.
As confidence grows, players begin to develop a greater understanding of the game and how to work together on the pitch. Fixtures and festivals give the girls the opportunity to put their new skills into practice, experience competitive rugby and, most importantly, enjoy playing alongside their teammates.
But being an Unicorn is about much more than rugby.
We want our girls to make friends, grow in confidence, challenge themselves and feel part of something. There will be plenty of rugby along the way, but also plenty of laughs, team spirit and memories made with friends.
Everything we do is underpinned by England Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – TREDS, helping our girls develop both as rugby players and as teammates.
You don’t need any rugby experience to join us. Just come along, give it a go and discover what being an Unicorn is all about!
