Our Senior Men’s section sits at the heart of rugby at Old Grammarians, bringing together competitive rugby, club spirit and the social side of the game.

Our 1st XV will compete in Counties 2 Herts this season, following promotion and ready to test themselves at the next level. The step up brings new opposition and new challenges, and the squad will be looking to build on last season and establish themselves in the league.

Training has a strong focus on performance, fitness, skills and game preparation, while maintaining the camaraderie and enjoyment that grassroots rugby is all about. We want players to work hard, compete for places and push themselves and each other – but also enjoy being part of the squad and the wider club.

Our senior section welcomes players with a wide range of experience. Whether you’re an established senior player, returning to rugby after some time away, moving up from Colts or looking for a new club, there’s always a warm welcome at OGs.

A key part of our senior setup is providing a clear pathway for our younger players. We want our Colts and age-grade players to see the 1st XV as something to aspire to and ultimately become part of, while benefiting from the experience and support of the senior players already within the squad.

Matchdays are competitive – we play to win and we’re proud to represent the shirt – but rugby at OGs has always been about more than 80 minutes on the pitch.

It’s about the teammates beside you, the supporters on the touchline, the post-match pint in the clubhouse and being part of a club where players, coaches, volunteers and supporters all contribute to what happens on a Saturday afternoon.

And, of course, there’s the occasional tour and social along the way!

Everything we do is underpinned by England Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – TREDS. We expect our senior players to represent those values, set the standard for the younger players coming through and be proud to represent Old Grammarians both on and off the pitch.

New players are always welcome. If you’re looking for competitive rugby with a proper grassroots club atmosphere, come down, meet the squad and become part of OGs.
