All new players are assured of the warmest of welcomes to our U13s group!
Our U13s are open to players in School Year 8, and as we move into the older age groups, the rugby begins to become more structured, competitive and tactical – while still keeping enjoyment, development and team spirit firmly at its heart.
Whether a player has been with us since Minis, is joining from another club or is completely new to rugby, there is a place for them. Players develop at different rates, and our coaches work hard to make sure everyone is supported, challenged and given the opportunity to progress.
At U13s, training builds on the core skills of passing, tackling, running, support play and decision-making, while introducing a greater understanding of positioning, game management and the different roles within a team. Players are encouraged to think for themselves, communicate on the pitch and take greater responsibility for their own development.
As the game progresses, there is also an increased focus on set pieces, contact skills, attacking and defensive structures and working together as a unit. Sessions combine focused skills work with plenty of game-based training, allowing players to put what they learn into practice in realistic situations.
Fixtures become a bigger part of the season, giving the squad regular opportunities to test themselves against other clubs and enjoy competitive rugby. Winning is great, but it isn’t everything. We want players to challenge themselves, learn from their mistakes, celebrate each other’s successes and continue developing as individuals and as a team.
Just as importantly, the U13s is about everything that comes with being part of a rugby club – friendships, confidence, resilience and a real sense of belonging. We want players to enjoy their rugby, look forward to training and matches and create friendships and memories that extend well beyond the pitch.
Everything we do is underpinned by England Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – TREDS. As our players get older, we encourage them to take greater ownership of those values and represent themselves, their teammates and the club with pride.
New players are always welcome. Come along, get involved and become part of the team!
