All new players are assured of the warmest of welcomes to our Colts squad!
Our Colts provide that all-important bridge between age-grade and senior rugby, helping players make the transition confidently, safely and at the right pace.
At this stage, rugby becomes more demanding, both physically and tactically. Training has a strong focus on performance, fitness, position-specific development, game management and decision-making, building on the skills players have developed throughout their junior rugby.
But Colts rugby is about more than simply developing better players. It’s about preparing young players for the next chapter of their rugby journey.
Our coaches work closely with the senior section to create a clear pathway into adult rugby. Players are gradually introduced to the senior environment, giving them opportunities to train alongside more experienced players, learn from senior coaches and begin to understand the expectations and demands of senior rugby.
The aim is to make that step feel like a natural progression rather than a big jump.
Fixtures remain an important part of the season and there is a strong competitive focus. We want our Colts to play to win, challenge themselves and perform to the best of their ability, while continuing to develop as individuals and as a squad.
There is also a greater expectation around commitment and personal responsibility. Players are encouraged to take ownership of their fitness and development, communicate with coaches and teammates, turn up ready to work and understand the responsibility that comes with representing the club.
Just as importantly, we want our Colts to remain part of the club beyond age-grade rugby. The friendships, team spirit and sense of belonging built through the junior years shouldn’t finish when a player reaches 18. Colts rugby is about helping players find their place within the wider senior rugby family and, hopefully, continue pulling on the club shirt for many years to come.
Everything we do is underpinned by England Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – TREDS. At Colts level, we expect our players to lead by example, both on and off the pitch, and become positive role models for the younger players coming through behind them.
The next step is senior rugby – and our job is to make sure our Colts are ready, confident and excited to take it.
