Our U14s bring together girls from **School Years 8 and 9**, and whether they’ve progressed through our younger age groups, are joining us from another club or are completely new to rugby, there’s a place for them in the squad.

At U14s, the rugby starts to take a step up. The game becomes faster, more physical and more structured, but our focus remains firmly on creating an environment where girls can enjoy their rugby, develop their skills and grow in confidence.

Training builds on the fundamentals of passing, tackling, running, evasion and support play, while introducing a greater understanding of positioning, set pieces, attacking and defensive structures and decision-making. Players are encouraged to communicate, think for themselves on the pitch and begin to understand the different roles they can play within the team.

With two school years playing together, there will naturally be different levels of experience, physical development and confidence within the squad. Our coaches work hard to ensure every player is challenged and supported appropriately, allowing everyone to progress at their own pace while developing safely.

Fixtures and festivals become an important part of the season, giving the girls plenty of opportunities to test themselves against other teams. There’s naturally a competitive edge – we want the girls to want to win – but development, participation and enjoyment remain just as important as the final score.

One of the biggest parts of our Unicorns section is the friendships and team spirit that develop along the way. We want our girls to support each other, celebrate each other’s successes and pick each other up when things don’t quite go to plan.

For us, rugby is about much more than what happens during 80 minutes on a pitch. It’s about confidence, resilience, friendships, belonging and being part of a team.

Everything we do is underpinned by England Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – TREDS, and we encourage our girls to carry those values with them both on and off the pitch.
