All new players are assured of the warmest of welcomes to our U14s group!
Our U14s are open to players in School Year 9, and at this stage rugby really starts to step up. The game becomes more structured and competitive, with players developing a greater understanding of their own roles and how they contribute to the team as a whole.
Whether you’ve been playing rugby since Minis, are joining us from another club or are new to the game, you’ll be welcomed into the squad and encouraged to develop at your own pace.
Training builds on the core skills of passing, tackling, running, support play and decision-making, alongside a greater focus on position-specific skills, set pieces, attacking and defensive structures and game awareness. Players are encouraged to think for themselves, communicate with their teammates and start taking more ownership of their rugby.
As players develop physically, there is also a continued emphasis on safe and effective contact, good technique and looking after both themselves and those around them.
Fixtures are an important part of the U14 season, giving the squad the chance to put everything they’ve worked on in training into practice. There’s naturally a more competitive edge as the players get older, and we want them to enjoy that challenge, but development and enjoyment remain just as important as the result.
We want our players to work hard for each other, celebrate the good days and learn from the tougher ones. Rugby is very much a team sport and, at this age, the friendships, camaraderie and sense of belonging that come with being part of a squad become just as important as what happens on the pitch.
Above all, we want our U14s to enjoy their rugby, challenge themselves, grow in confidence and be proud to represent their team and their club.
Everything we do is underpinned by England Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – TREDS. We expect our players to carry those values with them both on and off the pitch.
New players are always welcome, so come along, meet the team and get involved!
