U6s - A Fantastic Training Session
A fantastic training session this week, with all 18 children participating enthusiastically and showing great effort throughout.
It was brilliant to see everyone getting involved, developing their skills and supporting their teammates. The captains' armbands were awarded to Oisin and Cian in recognition of their excellent attitudes and positive approach.
Well done to everyone, keep up the great work!
U8s - Teamwork on Show
It was lovely to see some great teamwork from the U8s against Saracens, with the children passing backwards, running forwards and communicating really well with each other.
So much of what we've been practising in training was on show, and every player should feel proud of themselves. Everyone had a part to play, and it was a pleasure to watch the team working together.
A big well done to all the players, and thanks to the parents and coaches for their support and encouragement. Let's keep building on this and, most importantly, enjoying our rugby!
U9s - A Physical Challenge Against Saracens
The U9s hosted a very strong and committed Saracens team for a mini four-team tournament.
There was no shortage of action, with excellent running lines, silky footwork and hard tackling all round. Despite the inevitable knocks and scrapes expected from three back-to-back matches in their first full-contact season, every OG finished with a big smile on their face.
The coaches were very proud of how the children have adapted to full-contact rugby, although there's perhaps still some work to do with the parents, many of whom were peeking through their fingers as the physicality intensified!
Plenty of lessons were learnt, and the squad can't wait to put them into practice against Hackney this coming Sunday.
U10s - A Great Result Against Saracens
The U10s enjoyed a joint training session and match against Saracens, with OGs coming out on top after a very evenly contested and physical game.
The team showed great teamwork and put the new skills they've learnt this season into practice. Coach David also kept everyone in line as referee, with both sides benefiting from some valuable feedback.
A great opportunity to learn, develop and test themselves against strong opposition.
Next week, the U10s are at home against Hackney.
U11s - A Fantastic Morning with Harpenden
Our U11s welcomed two teams from Harpenden RFC this morning for a fantastic morning of rugby!
We always love playing Harpenden, and today was another brilliant example of what youth rugby is all about. Both squads put on a wonderful display, with all the players getting stuck in, supporting each other and, most importantly, having lots of fun.
A huge thank you to the players and coaches from Harpenden for such a great morning.
Special thanks also to Mark Lockwood for stepping in to help out. Fab as always, Locky!
U12s - Back to Training
Following their monster weekend of rugby last week, it was back to training for the U12s, with the opportunity to try out the pitches at Southgate Hockey Club.
As the team prepares for its first real taste of competitive rugby this season, the players are knuckling down and continuing to build both their skills and their solidarity as a squad.
They're looking forward to facing Hackney this weekend!
U13 Boys - First league Match
The U13 boys played their first league game of the season away at Bishop's Stortford.
The lads played really well against a very strong and well-organised Stortford side, showing plenty of fight and determination throughout. A special shout-out to captain Mikey for keeping the boys' energy and spirits high, and to Matthias and Reuben for scoring some fantastic tries.
Unfortunately, the result didn't go our way, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game and lots to work on as the team progresses through the rest of its pool matches.
U15s - A Tough Battle Against Tring
The U15 boys faced a tough battle at home against a strong Tring side, eventually losing 24–45.
After a difficult start, OGs battled back to take the lead in the third quarter, before a difficult final quarter allowed the visitors to pull away and made the scoreline more emphatic than the contest had suggested.
Youth Chair Chris Stockman reflected on the performance:
"There were some really encouraging spells of rugby throughout the match, and plenty of positives to take away.
The team showed exactly what they're capable of when they play with confidence and intensity.
The frustrating part was the 10–15 minute period in the second half where they seemed to lose focus, and credit to Tring for capitalising on it. It's a good reminder of how important it is to stay switched on for the entire match.
There were some standout performances with special mention to Mark, who ran hard, carrying with real intent.
Keep your heads up, take the positives forward, learn from the setbacks, and move on to next week".
The team will look to bounce back next weekend when they travel to Stockwood Park.
U16 Boys B - Preparing for Amersham
The U16 Boys B trained this weekend as they prepare for a friendly away at Amersham next Sunday.
U12 Girls First Competitive Match
A Fantastic First Outing for Our U12 Unicorns!
What a brilliant day for our youngest Unicorns as they took part in their very first Pitch Up & Play event at Hackney RFC! Plenty of determination, teamwork and smiles as the girls put their training into practice and enjoyed their first taste of competitive rugby. We couldn't be prouder of them!

U16 Girls Play First Friday Night Lights Fixture
Friday night under the lights saw our U16 Unicorns pull on Sarries colours for a tough derby against Finchley alongside cluster partners Sarries Sonics. The result didn’t go our way, but there was plenty of grit, teamwork and determination, plus a debut for Aurelia!

Once a Unicorn, Always a Unicorn
Two former Unicorns, one rugby pitch and a very proud coach! Whilst in Bristol for the Wooden Spoon Conference, our Girls Head Coach Patrick couldn't resist the opportunity to watch former Unicorns Mel and Daisy in action as UBWRFC took on Hartpury. Having coached both girls at OGs, it was a rather special moment to see them playing on the same pitch for the very first time!
